Merak was a normal soldier in the army of Great King Emanpugnikam. During the battle, he ventured farther into the tower of Mathol than any other soldier. At the top, he found the bodies of Captain Nelenar and Colonel Ved, both Red Exemplars. There were also three light Lunari in the room. Merak was ordered to take up the red armband of the Red Exemplars.
Merak then went on to rebuild the ranks of the Red Exemplars and rescued as many of the other soldiers as he could from the white plague.
