We passed a small village called Terin today. The people are friendly, although very cautious around us. I think it’s the telefs scaring them since they won’t go near the large beasts. Imagine if the largest animal you’ve ever seen was a deer, and suddenly a group of people approach your village, riding animals large enough to walk through your house like it’s made of kindling. It would be extremely intimidating, which is not exactly how we want people to feel when they see us. We ended up leaving Rar with the telefs some distance from the village, and walked the rest of the way.

The people apparently assumed Pelmarco was our leader, and bowed to him as we approached; probably because he is a Red Exemplar, or because he carries a spear with the red cloth tied to it. It’s hard to tell. They might not even know about the Red Exemplars this far into the wilderness. When the village learned we were not there for conquest, they invited us to visit their market. We’re not here for conquest, but we really aren’t here for commerce either. The Sisterhood operatives, however, took advantage of this to obtain some pots and jars for their plant collections. Krista’Mil returned to Rar and the telefs with their acquisitions, while Elendra’Tel remained with Pelmarco and me in Terin.

One of the most obvious oddities of the village was the large proportion of soldiers to the rest of the inhabitants. When I asked about this, they told us of another village slightly larger than Terin called Telin. The two villages are constantly at war, always battling over rights to the territories between them.

Tonight, the villagers of Terin held a feast for us. I assume they’re still cautious about us, and the feast is to appease any conquering desires we might have. I don’t know what all we ended up eating, but it was delicious. They put us up for the night in one of the houses. I don’t know about the others, but I sure feel tired. I expect I will sleep well tonight.
