The Mexican Drug War took place in 2017. The war was caused by a massive increase in violence by Mexican drug cartels that led to Congress authorizing a full-scale military invasion of the nation. The war was very unpopular in Mexico, and also among many Mexican immigrants. The result, however, was a greatly handicapped drug trade and a reinforced relationship with the Mexican government. Following the war and several years of coordinated military operations, the border between the United States and Mexico was finally opened.
