Telef

The telef is a large mammalian beast that lives in the jungles and equatorial savannahs of Etnyben. They have two large tusks strong enough to be used to uproot and carry trees. They are somewhat migratory, and travel in herds, but can alter their usual migratory destination to be with a human rider. They make excellent beasts of burden, but telefs found in the wild are too easily startled to be useful in battle.

They were first made famous by Josloy, who rode one of the beasts while exploring Etnyben. As long as they aren't startled, they do not mind human presence, and actually like having their head scratched. Their memory appears quite good, and telefs prefer and recognize familiar riders to new riders.

The most similar Earth creature would be the elephant, except telefs don't have trunks.
