Tunnel Guard

The Tunnel Guard are an exclusive group which oversees the tunnel at the Fortress of Nasad. They are chosen to serve by the kings of the nations of Panei, but they do not answer to any specific nation. Instead, the nations of Panei have all included in their laws a mandate that the tunnel is to remain seperate from any specific country. The Tunnel Guard does have the authority to demand various supplies from the four nations.

At all times, there are 100 members of the Tunnel Guard. Each nation of Panei is required to send 25 men to fulfill the requirements. Because of the exclusivity of the appointment, the job is often kept until death and new appointments are an uncommon occurance.

The uniform of the Tunnel Guard consists of extremely ornately decorated armor over black cloth with diagonal bands of yellow. A tuft of feathers sticks from the top of their helmets. They are often given new names, such as Sarasesanome, to match the dignity of their job. The Tunnel Guards do not usually carry shields except in extreme cases, and many claim that only prophecy could kill them. They have also altered the way they write, with their lettering vertical instead of horozontal.
