Spells were a form of passive magic which was placed upon an inanimate object such as a weapon. Because of the varied nature of spells combined with the potential ability to use magic by the one who carried the object, it was often possible that the power would transcend that usually expected from the spell. The orbs and staffs used by the weaker users of magic were given spells which would amplify the user's power.

Types of Spells

  • Deflection: King Belgrave's sword had a faint glow from the spell placed upon it. However, the primary function of the spell was that it had a tendancy to deflect magic as well as the effects of natural disasters if the person points the sword at it. A prime example of this is when a volcano subsided as Belgrave pointed his sword at it.
  • Distraction: The Dark Wizard Voth had a small knife with a spell of distraction. In combat, Voth's opponent could feel the blade as it desired to taste their flesh. This feeling would so distract the opponent that eventually they would think of nothing but the knife and Voth would have no problem defeating them.
  • Life: The only known use of this was when the Lunari crafted the metal skeletons who guarded the cavern underneath the Dark Valley. It is used to give an inanimate object the ability to speak and move with a decent level of intelligence.
  • Shatter: This arcane and rare effect could render a physical item stronger than any active magic used against it, such as an invisible wall. This spell was only placed on a single item in all the history of the world, and it worked only once before the final prophecy was fulfilled.
  • Unity: The ring worn by the Great Kings either has a spell placed upon it or is merely magical in nature. Its purpose is to unite the three races in a common cause to fulfill prophecy. When the ring was divided after the destruction of Atalan, the races were seperated and the Barbidons were even seduced and enslaved by Voth.
