We crossed a small river today, but that was all the progress we made. The telefs weren’t very interested in traveling as far as we normally travel each day, so we decided to stop for the rest of the day after crossing the river. I hope they’re more interested tomorrow. I wonder if they miss Rar and the two Sisterhood operatives that accompanied them for almost a year. I doubt it’s the cooler weather, since we’ve taken them this far south before, although there wasn’t the cool sea breeze we have here along the coast. Pelmarco thinks the telefs have spent too long away from their usual realm.

Without Rar and Krista’Mil, I am now the only provider of food for this expedition. Sure, the others might manage to make a lucky kill if a deer came within reach of Pelmarco’s spear, or Niahla’Sen were to use her arcane powers to catch something, but neither of them are any good at hunting. Fortunately, I managed to find a good herd of deer tonight. The hardest part was choosing which one to kill. A single deer is more than enough to feed the three of us, and if we weren’t constantly traveling, there’d be enough meat left over to smoke and preserve for several more meals. Because we end up leaving so much behind, we’ve fed countless fish, birds, carnivorous beasts, and insects in the past few years. I don’t think the animals mind the carcasses we leave them, but I’ve never been a big fan of leaving much of anything behind. To alleviate this, I generally try to kill the smallest deer I can find.
